Dønna Volunteer Center A place for community, inclusion and engagement “Dugnad” is a unique Norwegian tradition where people come together to volunteer for a common goal. Dønna Volunteer Center, founded in 1998 and now municipally run, is located in Solfjellsjøen/Dønna We serve as a local hub where people, organizations, and the public sector connect through meaningful activities. What we do: We match volunteers with local needs and coordinate over 30 groups. Our second-hand store, run entirely by volunteers, helps fund local initiatives. We offer language cafés, hobby days, youth events, and social gatherings like the NRK TV fundraiser and “Are You Alone on Christmas Eve?” party. In partnership with the refugee service and library, we promote inclusion and integration. We also work with the elderly home on meaningful activities like reading aloud for seniors and those with dementia. We work closely with BUA Dønna (Barn-Unge-Aktivitet), which provide free loans of equipment for sports and outdoor fun so all children and youth can join, regardless of income. We run the Digi-Dønna website, our very own app, and update the community calendar and association portal. Dønna Frivilligsentral is also the coordinator of the youth council which involves to prepare meetings, og to the national gatherings with members of the youth council over the whole of Norway. They also organise activities for the local youngsters. Our motto: Get involved—your time can make a real difference.
