Künstlerstadt Kalbe e.V.

The Künstlerstadt Kalbe is a non-profit association that has been promoting sustainable urban and regional development through art and culture for 12 years. We see ourselves as a social sculpture in the rural area of Altmark and strengthen civic engagement through our programs. This is primarily about uplifting the potential of individuals and reintegrating them into social processes. We have received multiple awards and recognition, and also support from the Federal Cultural Foundation, the Robert Bosch Foundation, among others, for our work. Events take place on approximately 160 days a year, ranging from festivals to cultural workshops for all generations, including for people with disabilities, with 80 days dedicated to a campus where national and international artists are invited. We bring 13 properties, which were previously vacant, to life with art and culture. 3 listed buildings that are in our ownership are being renovated at the same time. The association has 137 members, from Singapore to Switzerland to Kalbe. The work is mainly done on a voluntary basis. Starting from August 1, 2025, we will receive a full-time position thanks to a grant. Children and young people have been among our target groups since the beginning of our work, as there are few cultural and intercultural offerings in this region.
