Bashkia Mirditë

The Municipality of Mirdite is located in the central-north region of Albania as a territory of Lezha County. Its Main administrative center is the city of Rreshen. Mirdite has a diverse cultural and ethnographic heritage, exhibited by several archeological sites. It has a rich subsoil of minerals, and has been known since the Illyrian period for extracting and processing of copper. Today Mirdite is predominantly an agricultural area, with viticulture being the most competitive production activity, supported by a safe and attractive market since the fall of communism in the 1990’s. Rural and mountain tourism, particularly agrotourism have been the focus of the Municipality in recent years with proper steps and key investment. Developing these sectors diversifies the tourism offerings of the area and provides a new pipeline of economic development/job creation, all while maintaining a gentle impact to the environment. In December 2017 with the support of AAP-Marianne Graf, we opened Info-Kulla Mirdita, a museum and visitor’s center serving as the center for development and promotion of tourism. Its work focuses on developing new destinations, promoting the area and designing new tours to be experienced by visitors. Its museum exhibits local biodiversity, history, culture, traditions and art.
