Tjörnin, Frístundarmiðstöð

Tjörnin is the Recreational Centre that services Vesturbær, Hlíðar and Central Reykjavík. We offer children and young people in these districts a diverse youth and leisure work with an emphasis on prevention and guding them towards a healthy and positive life. A developed out-of-school service is one of the demands of modern times. It should be a forum for leisure, education, culture and development under the guidance of skilled staff. Parents are encouraged to follow us on Facebook and on the webpages of each youth and after-school centre. We work with democracy, human rights and participation in each of our centres. In our after-school centres, there are Children’s Councils which have the role of bringing children’s ideas and views to the forefront as well as ensuring an active participation in democracy.
