Ostrava is the third-largest city in the Czech Republic. Located in the east of the country, it forms the core of the Ostrava Metropolitan Area (ITI)—the largest metropolitan agglomeration in the Czech Republic by both population and area—home to 81% (951,235) of the Moravian-Silesian Region's inhabitants across a territory of 2,710 km². The city comprises 23 municipal districts, which are the founding authorities for 63 kindergartens and 54 primary schools. The city administration itself directly operates one kindergarten and four leisure-time centers. Various municipal departments—particularly the Strategic Development Department, the Culture and Education Department, and the Social Affairs and Health Department—implement their own projects funded by external sources. The Culture and Education Department—specifically its Education Strategy and Projects Unit—carries out international cooperation projects under the Erasmus+ program, seeking suitable partners beyond Ostrava’s existing network of partner cities. We are currently pursuing accreditation in the field of school education, enabling participation in language and professional training courses as well as mobility programs focused on primary school pedagogy. Furthermore, we have launched a new project in the field of non-formal youth education, specifically focusing on mobility for youth workers. Ostrava also hosts the "Europe Direct Ostrava" EU information center; a key priority for the city is supporting young people and encouraging their participation in the development of the city and the community where they wish to live. Our projects focus on nurturing talent, working with children at risk of social exclusion, and improving academic success among the younger generation. If you are interested in collaborating, we would be happy to hear from you.
