Working fields The NGO will provide help in the following fields: Preschool services Situation: Roma children usually do not attend kindergarten or pre-class at school, moreover the mental development of the Roma children is neglected in many families. Program: The children are trained to behave well, to use coloured pencils, to participate in craft and art activities, to obtain basic skills in Bulgarian language. Aim of program: After undergoing the preschool program the children are in a position to join in the regular government school. Literacy program Situation: more than 50% of the Roma children have never attended school and that is why it is very important to organize appropriate literacy programs for them. The role of the program is crucial because the Ministry of Education does not provide any permanent programs for illiterate children. Program: It will give the children chance to learn how to read and write and to obtain social skills. The intended program will be a pilot one, it will be based on the program for adults and good practices for training bilingual students. Aim of program: After undergoing the literacy program students will be able to read and write and do simple arithmetic tasks. They will also obtain knowledge of the social environment such as how to behave and communicate in the society, how to take care of themselves and their health, how to care about the household and how to find job. Tuition Situation: On the first place parents are illiterate and cannot help their children with the homework and children cannot do the homework themselves, so they need help with preparation for school. On the second place some teenagers want to work abroad and they wish to learn English to find a job. Program: The students are trained in school subjects, in spoken English; to handle with homework. Aim of program: After undergoing the program students will be prepared for school lessons; teenagers will learn basic English and will be in a position to find job more easily Family consulting Situation: More Roma families are illiterate and do not know how to apply for job and for school for their children or how to fill in documents. Program: The families are explained procedures of applying for school (both for children and adults), how to fill in documents, they are motivated to insist their children go to school; children are supported when moving from one school to another; meetings with psychologists are organized if necessary. Aim of program: Supporting families. Activities for children’s free time: Situation: Families do not ensure free time activities for children. Program: housework lessons, craft lessons, cooking, doing some sightseeing, going to the cinema, theater, museums and excursions, playing outside games etc. Aim of program: While participating in the program children will have fun and feel happy. The program will enrich their imagination. Participation in activities together with other NGOs Aim of program: to exchange experience and good practices. Applying for EU, government and private programs Program: to write projects and to plan respective activities. Aim of program: to receive specialized support and help in social and educational aspect and to purchase specialized equipment.
