This kind of residences was born in the 60’s in France, KERELIE for 1963 with the Association “Les Amitiés d’Armor” in the city of BREST. The purpose of the FJT is not only to rent out rooms and flats, but also help the residents to have a place in the city: like for example have a job, have leisure activities, practice sports, travel all over the world … There is now 400 FJT in France, 22 associations in Brittany. Brest, the second city of Brittany with 200 000 people, have 6 FJT with 2 organizations: 3 of them are included in the Association Amities d’Armor. The youth is not the only one population of the association. There is 750 workers, 15 residences and services for different people: the physical and mentally disabled, elderly, the babies (with a creche) and young people. The public: The 3 FJT have 180 flats or rooms, Kerelie 75. The minimum to stay is one month, the maximum is 2 years. The majority of the population stays 6 months. We welcome every years about 300/350 young people. The people of the 3 FJT are 16 to 30 years old: ¼ students, ¼ workers, ¼ sandwich course (work/school), ¼ with social problems. Only 30% come from Brest.People come from France, europe and all over the world. It means that our role is to make discover the city and what you need when you are young (the different administrations desks, the public transportation …). 50% are living their parents for the first time. It’s the first step without the parents, the first step towards independence or autonomy. They don’t have a lot of money: the majority is living with 500€.
