We are the Belgian Development Agency and implement and coordinate Belgium’s international development policy and carry out public service assignments under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Our 1500 staff members in Brussels and in our 14 overseas offices embody the commitment of the Belgian State and other development partners to international solidarity. We build a sustainable world where women and men live under the rule of law and are free to pursue their aspirations. We are a European player enhancing the impact of Belgium in international development. And as a knowledge centre we think and act in terms of strategy and policy influence to promote sustainable development. We can quickly mobilize expertise through our networks to implement sustainable development initiatives which are in line with the priorities of Belgium and the objectives of our partners. We are working on nine different sectors, as following : • Agriculture and rural development: We support sustainable family agriculture, to improve food security and contribute to inclusive economic growth. • Digitalization : Digital technologies provide important means of leverage to foster development, help the most vulnerable populations and deliver better public services. The potential of digitalization is huge in particular in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. • Education, Training and employment: Education, key to economic and personal development. • Energy : By providing sustainable solutions we improve access to energy for households, businesses and institutions. Access to electricity improves people's quality of life, helps with the provision of better public services and fosters entrepreneurship. • Environment and climate : We assist our partners in setting up low-carbon, environment-friendly societies. • Gender: our development efforts will be worthwhile only if we step up the fight for equality between women and men. • Governance : in view of improving public service provision to citizens and of strengthening the rule of law and the civic commitment, we assist institutions in becoming efficient, inclusive and accountable. • Health : The health sector is traditionally very important for the Belgian Development Cooperation. Healthy people are more likely to participate in the economy and therefore contribute to the development of their country. • Water and Sanitation : Access to water and sanitation constitute both a need and a basic right of the population. It affects public health, gender equality, the environment and economic processes. The Belgian Development Cooperation accompanies its partner countries in their efforts in this domain.
