The non-profit organisation Light Trees (Φωτόδεντρα, in Greek) was established in Athens, Greece in 2011, aiming at the empowerment of vulnerable and excluded social groups, especially families, parents, and children, with a focus on parental consulting, protection of people with a refugee/migrant profile, the inclusion of people with disabilities, intercultural education, community engagement, and empowerment. The organisation employs specialized professionals from diverse educational backgrounds and disciplines, with a high work ethic and genuine interest in working in the humanitarian sector, ensuring gender balance, diversity, and equity for all staff members. Light Trees has developed a Gender Equality Plan, and it has adopted Child Protection, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, and Data Protection policies. Light Trees is missioned to design and implement impactful and meaningful projects, following a participatory, community-based approach. Light Trees professionals develop innovative social actions and services that respond to the realistic needs of the most vulnerable, by embracing their autonomy and resilience. The main areas of interventions evolve around: Community Engagement & Social Solidarity Integration & Intercultural Education Intercultural Development & Exchange Mental Health & Well-being Living Systems & Environment The mandate of the Light Tree organisation is to address the cause roots of social injustices and drive social change, by fostering families’ and individuals’ resilience and promoting individual and collective well-being. Light Trees professionals have gained extensive experience and knowledge on participatory, bottom-up, community engagement, and non-formal education initiatives, strategically designed for complex national and international projects, involving individuals and families of a refugee and/or migrant background, people with disabilities, homeless and undocumented people, Roma communities, and other vulnerable social groups. The organisation has developed expertise in designing and running intercultural education and adult education projects to promote social and labor integration and has built a wide network of civil society and community organisations across Greece, that share the same goals and principles. Light Trees will add value to the effective implementation of project activities as it has experience in field interventions and in working with and engaging individuals who are at risk of social exclusion. Light Trees professionals also have a proven record of successful collaborations with national and regional authorities, for advanced operational efficiency and higher social impact. Light Trees organisation is being formed by a dynamic and flexible team of professionals, highly experienced in field operations, that brings scientific expertise in the fields of Education and Special Education, Social Anthropology, Communications, Social Work, and Psychology.
