Associação Materlua

Founded in 2021, Materlua is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving perinatal care and experiences by training and empowering doulas and postpartum doulas. Our mission is to enhance the quality, impact, and sustainability of doula care through specialized training programs and initiatives that strengthen professional skills, advocacy, and ethical business practices. Doulas play a vital role in improving maternal and infant health outcomes, offering physical, emotional, and informational support during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Their presence contributes to fewer medical interventions during birth, enhanced birth experiences, and stronger bonds between parents and their newborns. In addition to training, Materlua leads volunteer doula programs that provide essential perinatal support to women in vulnerable situations, including refugees, incarcerated women, survivors of violence, and those facing social or economic hardship. Our work not only empowers doulas but also creates a ripple effect, transforming communities by fostering inclusion, care, and dignity during one of life’s most profound experiences. Through our initiatives, we strive to make perinatal care accessible and supportive for all women, regardless of their circumstances. Materlua is committed to promoting gender equity, reducing health disparities, and contributing to the global dialogue on improving maternity care. We aim to build a future where every woman can experience childbirth safely, with confidence, respect, autonomy, and the support she deserves. As active members of the European Doula Network, we are engaged and eager to collaborate on international projects to elevate the profession and promote best practices across borders
