Marmara 1 Nolu L Tipi Kapalı Ceza İnfaz Kurumu (Marmara Type L Closed Penal Institution No. 1) is a public institution operating 24/7 under the authority of the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Türkiye. As of today, the institution houses a total of 3,020 inmates, including 915 individuals aged between 18 and 30, convicted or detained for various criminal offenses. Educational, Social, and Cultural Activities During their sentence or detention period as determined by the courts, inmates can participate in a variety of programs, including: Educational programs Sports activities Social and cultural events Psychosocial support sessions, including both individual counseling and group work In addition, inmates can make productive use of their time by working in vocational workshops or by taking part in various institutional support services. Facilities Within the Institution The institution provides a wide range of physical and functional spaces to support the rehabilitation and personal development of inmates: 1 indoor sports hall 2 outdoor sports areas 1 group activity room 4 individual counseling rooms 1 music room 1 computer room 1 social activity area (including chess tables and recreational game spaces) 1 spiritual guidance classroom 2 educational classrooms 1 hobby workshop (offering courses such as candle-making and wood painting) 1 tile painting workshop 2 textile workshops 1 inmate-operated café 1 inmate-operated barbershop Professional Staff and Support Personnel To ensure the smooth and effective operation of all programs and services, the institution employs approximately 250 personnel, including: Teachers Psychologists Social workers Dentist, medical doctor, and nurses Religious counselors Correctional officers Administrative staff such as directors, deputy directors, and wardens Marmara Type L Closed Penal Institution No. 1 is a multifaceted public correctional facility dedicated to ensuring humane conditions, supporting rehabilitation, and preparing inmates for reintegration into society.
