The archeological park in Xanten has been founded in 1977. It is an independant department of the Landschaftsverband Rheinland, which is a big regional council for the Rhineland. At the center of the approx 70 archaeological park employees`work is research into the roman town of Colonia Ulpia Traiana by excavation. The daily work is defined by archaeological excavation and the educational mediation of its history to the visitors. A vitual guided tour takes the visitors in a temporary relationship of the roman period of this place, they get a close view in the rise and fall og this town. Furthermore the visitors get informations about the importance of conservation and reconstruction for an active examination with history. The history is made visible, alive and comprehensible. The enormous town area is examined by an excavation team under the management of archaeologists. On the basis of the excavation results life size models will be build and original finds and foundations are shown under protection buildings. The model should help the 600.000 visitors who visit the APX annually imagine what the town was like.
