MAXIM Kinder- und Jugendkulturzentrum

The Maxim Kinder-und Jugendkulturzentrum (cultural center for children and teenagers) is a facility of the district authority Pankow in Berlin and thus publicly funded on a municipal level. Therefore, the facility is not affiliated with any political, religious or economic alignment. We consider ourselves a facility for children and adolescents, welcoming everyone regardless of ethnic background, social status and religious or political beliefs. We are bound by the constitution and the children and youth welfare act (KJHG), which dictates the dissociation from racism, fascism, sexism and xenophobia. The facility has an educational effective area of about 600m² and is located on a property of ca. 5000 m², including a playing field, a streetball court, a skate ramp, an ecological garden with a pond and three sheds. The facility predominantly offers opportunities to spend free time. The main focus lies on social work with children and teenagers. Connected to that, there are numerous special offers in the cultural, musical and creative sector, as well as extracurricular educational work and sports. Through courses, workshops and projects concerning diverse themes, a wide-ranging leisure program is presented to different age groups. Particular emphasis lies on musical educational and environmentally oriented youth work. We regularly host live concerts of school bands, organized and carried out by volunteers acting as a junior company. The target group of Maxim ranges from 6 years (beginning of the compulsory school age) to 25 years. In certain context we also work cross-generational. Currently, the main emphasis lies on young people from 10 to 18 years. On average, the facility is used by ca. 100 visitors every day.
