The Municipality of Villacidro, as a local administration body, handles all tasks and responsibilities connected to the town's administration, and it plans and promotes all kinds of social services aimed at the population, to insure the town's social, cultural and economic development. Villacidro implements a variety of services aimed at the citizens, through different departments, one of which is the Social Services Department. Its main goal is to guarantee a complete array of social services to the entirety of the local population as well as to take action where support is needed, implementing different activities in order to raise the population's quality of life, equal opportunities and active participation to the community's life, on a social, cultural, political and economic level. Therefore, the planning and realization of any intervention, service and activity implemented in the community, are aimed at insuring a better quality of life for all citizens not only in terms of basic welfare, but also through being an active and accomplished part of the community itself and contribute to its growth. Keeping this goal in mind, we believe that the presence of European volunteers in Villacidro and the ensuing cultural exchange, represents a great added value in stimulating active participation and active citizenship among the locals, especially for young people, who'll be able to witness the volunteers' intercultural experiences firsthand and their positive impact on the community, and get inspired by their peers' example. The main services provided by the Social Services Department in Villacidro are divided by target group, and are: services for the entire population; eldercare/services for the elderly; services for people with disabilities; childcare; youth work/services for young people. There are many facilities available to the Municipality and the Social Services Department. In particular, the European Solidarity Corps volunteers will be involved in activities taking place mainly in two buildings: the Informagiovani (literally: info-service for young people) and Educational Services offices, pertaining to the youth work sector, and the retirement home for the elderly, related of course to eldercare.
