About Organization
Monsagro is a small village located in Salamanca (Castilla y León). It has a population of around 140 inhabitants, but due to its peaceful beauty and ideal climate, this rises to around 1000 in the summer months. It is located in the national park Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia, and it belongs to the former ‘Las Batuecas’ National Hunting Reserve, made up of various neighbouring towns. Monsagro has a town hall, an old elementary school that is being converted into an activity center, a communal library, a botanical, garden, a recreational centre for the elderly and a bar. It has a brand new interactive fossil museum, since the village is an important showcase of over 400 million year-old marine fossils, which are embedded all around on paths and walls. The museum contains a newly-installed interactive virtual reality (VR) simulator. There is as well as an ethnographic and animal museum where you can get to know the flora, fauna and customs of the area. Monsagro Council, from its Youth and Culture area, has among other objectives to generate opportunities for the Youth of Monsagro and the Batuecas region and to make its environmental and geological wealth known in Europe. The target group on which it focuses is that of young people interested in the environment, the rural world and science, with concerns to know the origin of the planet, of Europe.
