The Association “A Casa de Betânia” - is a private Institution of Social Solidarity, non-profit, whose objective is the family, social and professional integration of young people and adults with learning difficulties or mild and moderate intellectual disability. Casa de Betânia believes in community-based rehabilitation, so it seeks to create small communities of life, homes where each person with intellectual disability can be and feel independent, with their own values and rights and the same dignity than any other citizen - the right to love and be loved, the right to experience friendship and fellowship, the right to specific training in order to be able to achieve a work activity or other tasks according to his aptitudes. The life project in the residences of “A Casa de Betânia” is based on the experience of its founding partners, who, together, have elaborated basic texts that constitute their identity, pedagogical experience, spirituality and lifestyle with people with and without disabilities, as well as all forms of relationship between communities and the surrounding society and the Church. “Casa de Betânia” adopts strategies for the socio-labor insertion of its residents, whenever possible, in regular or vocational education or in rehabilitation centers that can lead to insertion in society and the performance of a work activity that adapts to their specific capabilities.
