Osnovna sola Cvetka Golarja

The school has 799 students at primary and secondary level. It is situated in the suburb of the medieval town Škofja Loka. It is located in the industrial area among the blocks of flats. Pupils from urban and rural environment attend the school. Beside the central building, there is also a branch school in the village of Reteče. We are a Healthy, Cultural and UNESCO school. We focus on healthy food and lifestyle, and we are deeply eco-oriented. Students are offered many after-school clubs from different areas. We integrate the pupils with special needs into the curriculum as well as newcomers from other countries. We would like to give our pupils an opportunity to get acquainted with other European cultures through European volunteers. Respecting and accepting other cultures and backgrounds is a very relevant matter, so the pupils and the staff are interested in sharing new ideas with people from other European countries, expanding European dimension and developing intercultural competence.The professional staff recognise new teaching/learning methods and use them in their classes. Our pupils have the opportunity of learning different languages: Slovene, English, German and French as compulsory and elective subjects. Our school has got rich experiences not only on local, regional and national level, but also internationally. We have successfully finished three Comenius and one Erasmus+KA2 projects. The educational staff encourages new ICT methods into the curricula and stresses reading and digital literacy on daily basis. We are able to contribute to the common European culture and citizenship, sharing similarities between each one of us and understanding what binds us together. The motto of our school is: Work, respect and knowledge open the door into a better life. The European volunteers will enable the students and teachers to get an insight into a foreign way of life, school system, culture and traditions. Our school staff is skilled to ensure the success of this project and will strive to ensure it reaches the whole school community. The teachers involved will experience a true feel for the educational system of some other country as well as the way of teaching. Having a European volunteer would benefit to all the parties involved - students and teachers, and hopefully to the volunteer him/herself as well.
