About Organization
Kukokotuki association supports and facilitates the work of cultural collective of Korkeaoja. Our aims are to increase the opportunities for artistic work in the Finnish countryside and combining art with living close to the land while promoting sustainability and ecological values. Korkeaoja is a village in Satakunta, Finland, close to the city of Pori. The facilities run by our association are all located within the village, as are our projects and events. Among our ongoing long-term projects are the creation of an international residency for artists and the creation of a communal edible forest garden. In addition we organize a wide range of festivals, exhibitions, workshops and seminars. There is also a possibility for communal gardening and growing annual crops. The residency is aimed for people of all ages and all cultures and backgrounds, as are all the projects of our cultural collective. Our public events attract people from all around Finland, but also focus on serving our local community in the south-west countryside of Finland. We collaborate frequently with the nearby School of Fine Art Kankaanpää (BA and MA at Satakunta University of Applied Sciences) and their students, the artist association T.E.H.D.A.S. (focused in the nearby city of Pori), and Pori art museum. The cultural collective also works adjacent to an organic farm which provides opportunities to see farming life in action. Our special interests are performance art and time/space art, permaculture and ecological design, and holistic, wholesome life in general. Some examples of our past event and activities are: Käsitekesä summer exhibition (www.kasitekesa.org), Artistic Ecosystems seminar, the Immaterial festival of performance art, ”Kotonen” mobile house construction workshops and lectures on permaculture and forest garden design.
