About Organization
Generator 9.8 (legally called as NGO Newton) is an NGO founded in 2015 by youngsters with a diverse background but common objectives. It is the first non-profit Coworking Space & Social cafe in Georgia, based on volunteering and sharing economy principles. Generator 9.8 provides an alternative social space for local and international professionals.We offer a participative, supportive working space for personal and professional development.Community 9.8 shares core values and principles that contribute to common growth and the generation of positive changes. Generator 9.8 has been awarded as the best social enterprise of the year 2015 by Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs of Georgia and the concept was presented on TEDx Tbilisi the same year (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhD6U23UlMg). During 2015-2017 Generator 9.8 has been operating as the social enterprise, providing cafe-bar and event space, which was bringing income for operating the entire platform. In 2017 city hall of Tbilisi started renovation works in the district, where Generator was located and we needed to change the space in a very short notice. Since 2017, in frame of the collaboration with the “Union of Multifunctional Libraries of Tbilisi” Generator 9.8 has been operating in Mediathek Nadzaladevi (which was opened the moment when Generator was closed down in previous location). According to the agreement between Generator and Mediathek, the Mediathek is providing the space for the activities of Generator for free, in exchange Generator helps Mediathek to hold activities and bring young people from the area to the space. MAIN ACTIVITIES: Local educational activities for youth: In the evening the team of local interns and volunteers organize various public lectures, exhibitions, educational workshops, startup meetups, movie screenings and discussions, language clubs, inclusive meetups, sport activities, etc. International projects: In addition team of Generator 9.8 has a huge experience of hosting and organizing various Erasmus+ projects in Georgia and outside, since 2008, has a big network of people and institutions in relevant fields and is actively involved in various youth projects. The topics of the projects combine: social entrepreneurship, collaborative consumption and social innovation. Coworking Space: At the moment Generator 9.8 is offering interested individuals/ organizations a free working space and conditions for carrying out their work related activities. Promoting Social Entrepreneurship (SE): Generator has implemented the first accelerator program in Georgia for social enterprises, where 6 different SEs were born. One of them - “Green Gift” - was awarded as the best social enterprise of the following year.Since the moment of creation Generator has been actively involved in the field of SE in Georgia, supporting its development and raising awareness about the topic, being part of various programs, organizing meetups once a month about the topic, giving space to different SEs to exhibit their work and promote their activities, organizing Sharing Festivals, holding public lectures about the topic, giving mentorship to the beginners in the fields, etc. Supporting Social Enterprises (SE): For now Generator is collaborating with the following SEs operating in Georgia: -Babale - “Babale” is a social enterprise founded by “For the Real Changes” (non-governmental organization). Members and founders of the NGO are parents of children/youngsters with disabilities.“Babale” combines the creative workshop, where youngsters with disabilities work/study and salon, where the artworks are exhibited.The main objectives of the social enterprise are to give people with disabilities (PWD) opportunity to learn the decorative art, to get professional knowledge, to improve their skills, to realize their opportunities and to employ; -Anika - Association “Anika” is a non-governmental organization founded in 1997 by parents of children with disabilities.
