Nyitott Kert Alapitvany (public name: Cargonomia) is a community-based organisation active in Budapest and in the village of Zsámbok. We promote sustainable urban living through ecological food systems, low-carbon logistics, and community self-organisation, while also developing rural projects around agroecology, permaculture, eco-construction, and low-tech solutions for sustainable living. Our aim is to support a just transition towards environmentally and socially sustainable ways of life. We combine cargo bike–based urban logistics, direct support for small-scale farmers, and community education on sustainability, food sovereignty, and degrowth. Cargonomia operates as an open community space for practical solutions, experimentation, and collective learning. Our activities include local organic food distribution, community events and workshops, and cooperation with local and international partners on sustainable mobility, circular economy, and social ecology. Our target groups are young people, volunteers, local residents, activists, farmers, and civil society organisations. Through volunteering, traineeship programme or workshop and summer camps, participants gain hands-on experience, practical skills, and a deeper understanding of solidarity and sustainability.
