Járókelő Közhasznú Egyesület

Járókelő.hu was set up in 2012 by a group of young people interested in public affairs to connect city dwellers with the relevant municipalities and public service providers in order to signal disturbing public space problems such as potholes, empty dumps, Christmas trees thrown on sidewalks, scribbled bus stops or abandoned cars. One of the most important milestones in the life of our organization was the registration of the association as public benefit in 2014, and since then we have been operating as a non-profit association. Thanks to our service, the citizens do not have to guess who is in charge to solve those problems listed above, because when sent to the Járókelő, they can be sure that it will land at the appropriate competent authority. Our site plays a major role not only in solving problems, but also in transparency, as cases submitted with a photo, title and short description, and responses from municipalities can be retrieved in a public, mapped database. Since our launch, we have forwarded more than 60,000 notifications, of which 31,000 cases have been resolved nationwide. In addition to our primary goal, we focus on being a conscious citizen and protecting the interests of pedestrians. We want to ensure that the problems that disturb the locals are noticed and addressed by them, thus contributing to making their own and others’ environments more livable and orderly. It is clear from the reports we receive that urbanization and motorization in line with the global trend require the protection of the interests of pedestrians by creating safer urban infrastructure, a more livable environment and redistributed public spaces, which we also promote in our own publication Healthy Streets. We carry out our activities - which are basically online - nationwide, in addition to Budapest, we operate in several county capitals and smaller larger settlements with the involvement of local volunteers, who convey the messages of the citizens to local governments, so we pay extra attention to meeting our volunteers personally. We organize monthly meetings, an annual team building and a Christmas celebration for them, where we welcome them with various programs. Máté Lukács, the coordinator of the association, is responsible for the volunteers. Due to the changes in the life of the association, our former charge d'affaires Le Marietta resigned from her position, her role was taken over by Róbert Szabó in the winter of 2020, who performs this task part-time and deals with the development of the organization's work processes. Marietta is the founder of the association, as an association member she remains active and participates in the development of the organization's activities.
