About Organization
The Escuela Waldorf Meniñeiros is located in the middle of the north-eastern part of Galicia in Spain, in the countryside and only 20 kilometers from the city of Lugo. It is a Waldorf school with an attached kindergarten. The institution was born out of a parents' and teachers' initiative that founded a kindergarten in 2003. Since then the school has grown steadily and in 2009 the doors of the Escuela Waldorf Meniñeiros were opened. This is the first Waldorf school in Galicia. The facility is deliberately located in the middle of greenery and surrounded by meadows and fields in order to carry out a variety of activities in nature. These include agriculture, riding therapy and craft and artistic workshops. The aim of the institution is to develop not only intellectual skills, but also emotional, creative and will skills. For about 90 children, the facility now has a toddler group, two kindergarten groups and the school with grades 1 to 10. All the work of the school is based on Waldorf education and is characterized by fixed daily, weekly, and monthly rhythms that accompany the children and pupils through the year. This also includes many festivals, which are based on the seasons and are celebrated together. There are also regular activities such as the harvest and the corresponding harvest festival or the care of the animals living on the premises (e.g. sheep, pigs, and chickens). In addition, the Escuela Waldorf Meniñeiros also offers further training on Waldorf Education topics that appeal above all to parents and teachers but also to a broad public. Volunteers will experience a year of learning in a school with a variety of ways of working, where children learn through experience, thinking and feeling. They will enjoy a privileged environment in the middle of nature where they will be in contact with the animals of our farm and agriculture. They also will have the opportunity to participate in the numerous artistic activities that are carried out in our daily lives, such as music, drawing, handicrafts, etc.
