The "Centre Social Espace Carnot" (the Social Center) is located in the town of Le Portel, a seaside town of nearly 10 000 inhabitants in the departement of Pas-de-Calais, north of France. It is located in the heart of the community, identified as a sensitive and a priority area by the city policy. It was established in accordance with the french 1901 law and is affiliated to the "Fédération Nationale des Centres Sociaux et Socio-culturels de France" (French National Federation of Social and Socio-cultural Centers). It is approved by the "Caisse d'Allocations Familiales" (Departemental Family Allowance Fund). It's open to all without distinction of age, nationality, gender or social level. It leads projects aimed at reducing social, economic and educational inequalities. The Social Center works around differents sectors: - Childhood, - Youth, prevention, integration - Family, parenthood - Adults, seniors and health - Digital - Services to the population It also works to include people in the daily life of the Social Center. The Social Center's actions are also based on a "Espace de Vie Social", a social service branch of the main social center, in Henriville, a neighborhood far from the town center and also designated as a sensitive and priority area by the city policy. Its projects are based on local social development. Qualified employees work in each activity sector. For several years now, Civic Service volunteers have been working on all issues.
