About Organization
Ekikrok is a non-profit organisation founded in 2012 by 13 citizens from the area around the Belgian town of Gembloux. The name “Ekikrok” gives away our main interests and aims as an organisation; “Eki” is evocative of equitable and balanced (équilibré in French), and “Krok” suggests food and eating in a French context. Ekikrok was founded to facilitate learning, experimentation and sharing of best practices and ideas in the area of sustainable and healthy eating. By that, we mean food that tastes good, balanced and varied, which satisfies the individual’s specific nutritional needs, produced by an environmentally and economically sustainable process, thus one which doesn’t harm resources like water and soil or biodiversity, or animals. It also means that it is produced with a minimum of energy consumption through production and transport, and which fosters the sovereignty and independence of all regions of the world. All year round, we welcome individuals and groups, of all ages, with or without relevant experience to participate in our different workshops, courses and conferences dedicated to various aspects of sustainable and healthy eating. Once a week, on Wednesdays (3.30 to 7.00 PM), we open our very own grocery store to the public. We can currently offer around 350 different seasonal, local and organic products to our customers, minimally processed if at all, and as little packaged as possible, and to a fair price for producers and customers alike.
