About Organization
LOTUS- Freie Schule Seenland is a small school with a self-directed learning focus of about 40 children between 6-14 years old, learning from another in an age-mixed setting. The children have the possibility to be free and to independently choose their direction with accordance to their own development plan. There are no evaluations, no grades, and no reports, no typical teaching sessions and no classes. The activities are based in the principle of fulfilling the kids own self-chosen tasks and goals. This gives space for a wide range of activities, based on self-motivation, and initiated through social encounter. Subjects taught include: foreign language lessons, sports, music, dance, painting, handcrafts, cooking, trips into nature or cultural venues, workshops. Various projects take place at our school, sometimes carried out by a teacher, sometimes by a parent or an external person (e.g. circus workshop, making soap, writing project, building a wind or water wheel, making goat cheese, playing theatre, film project, etc.).
