The Livarot twinning committee is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. In 1975, a school exchange was launched between students from Livarot and those from South Molton, a town in Devon, England. Both towns are located in rural areas, about an hour from the sea, and have approximately 6,000 inhabitants each. Over the years, the exchange expanded to include adults, fostering long-lasting friendships, some of which have endured for decades. Until Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic, we continued to send young people to England. Today, with the aging of English host families, accommodating young visitors has become more challenging. However, schools in both towns remain in contact through letter exchanges. Many residents of Livarot have, at some point, had the opportunity to travel to England as part of this twinning program. This year, as part of our commitment to European values, we organized an exhibition about Europe. Residents of the retirement home had the chance to visit the exhibition alongside students from Saint Joseph School, creating a meaningful intergenerational exchange.
