Today, 54 per cent of the world’s population lives in urban areas, a proportion that is expected to increase to 66 per cent by 2050. Projections show that urbanization combined with the overall growth of the world’s population could add another 2.5 billion people to urban populations by 2050 according to the United Nations. We are a Non-For-Profit Organisation and this is our main concern. We are based in Galicia, a land where agriculture and rural life are the basis of life, tradition and culture. But this tradition is getting lost as more and more people move to the city. The consequences of this are the huge environmental changes we are experiencing at the moment in the Earth, together with the loss of knowledge to recover the old ways in which we lived in harmony with our environment and with ourselves. A Casa do Río has been active since 2015, and our main aims have been the cultural development of the area we inhabit and its environmental protection. This area, called Vilar de Donas, is a beautiful municipality in the heart of Galicia with a rich history linked to the Camino de Santiago and its "cabaleiros", the horsemen who guarded this village and its monastery. It is said to have been a safe place for the "donas" or ladies in times of the crusaders. Vilar de Donas is also suffering abandonment. Rural Galicia is becoming depopulated, and at the same time, realising this, many foreigners are coming and establishing themselves here, so now the cultural transfer is becoming intercultural. This is something we experience, seeing our volunteers interact with us and other locals. As an organisation, we work for the existence of diversity in our land, diversity of gender, of choice, of culture, color, diversity of life. We live in a safe place to build a new life based on the wisdom of the old, with the knowledge of the new. Please ask to join us if you feel this as your call. http://facebook.com/acasadorio.arte http://acasadorio.wordpress.com
