booq is a social promoting organisation born in Palermo in January 2017. Since that, the booq team has been working as an informal group, constantly promoting values such as anti-racism, integration, reading, culture, and human rights for people who are marginalized by our society. booq is composed of 25 people, most of whom are experts in the field of social work, especially with minors and migrants, active in the suburbs of the city and in unsafe neighborhoods. The team can rely on various profiles, being formed by educators, sports coaches, librarians and archivists, neuropsychomotricists, designers, professors, social media managers, teachers and cooperators. A strong part of booq activities has always been aimed at the promotion of reading, focusing on the transmission of openness and curiosity for different cultures, which have resulted in hundreds of book presentations, films and documentaries with regional and national resonance. On the other hand, booq has always promoted strong actions in its territory aimed at the integration of migrants and people with fewer opportunities and their social inclusion, promoting good practices and participating in the virtuous paths of the integration and support system, formed by dozens of local public entities and organizations. Booq is actively promoting the “Mediterraneaneo Antirazzista” demonstration - already defined as Good Practice by the European Union as a tool for social inclusion through sport - which has effectively contributed in sharing the values of anti-racism, urban regeneration and active participation through sport for 10 years. This festival attracts thousands of participants every year, half of whom are first or second generation migrants - especially youngsters who have recently landed in Sicily – taking part in non-competitive sport tournaments of volleyball, football, basketball and cricket through a solidarity philosophy promotion of human rights. Besides its role in the management of the event, booq has been organizing local activities in the quarter of Kalsa.
