Tmelník o.s.

Tmelník o.s. is a youth civic initiative formed into an NGO. We are based in the city of Mělník, situated in the Central Bohemia Region of the Czech Republic. The general aim of our activities is enrichment of the educational, social and cultural life of young people living in our region with regard to a wider perspective of such issues within all Czech Republic, EU and beyond. Our team consists of several students and youth leaders as well as young professionals with various profiles, between 17 and 27 years of age. Our primary target group is young people in the age between 15 and 30 mainly from the local county, but we are also working with youth from other regions of the Czech Republic. Tmelník operates as a civic platform open to everyone. We organize meetings, workshops, seminars, debates, happenings and other events where we try to foster interest and participation of young people on democratic principles, public affairs and the every day life of local communities within the Czech Republic. We form a subvention for young people to understand and deal with the social, economical, cultural and language barriers in their lives through the principles of tolerance to diversity, open discussion, active initiatives, shared experiences, non-formal education and informal learning. Tmelník receives a lot of attention from students, youth workers and other young people from all around the Czech Republic as it brings them many various events, activities and new opportunities for their self-actualization and personal development. The key for us is to work on both local and international projects that append to each other and we try to cover broad scale of themes and topics according to what our target group finds interesting. Every year we organize series of film screenings of documentary films for local pupils and students in cooperation with a renowned human rights film festival in Prague (One World). We run an accredited regional Eurodesk office and we provide free consultancy in studying and working opportunities in the Czech Republic and in the EU to students and other young people from our region. We cooperate with local municipalities, schools and other institutions as well as independent interest groups, associations and other organizations. We are also in an informal partnership with other units of that kind from all around the Czech Republic. Our team is working hard on developing Tmelník o.s. into an even more active, open and easy-to-access platform and we are looking forward to finding new partner institutions to share and exchange our experiences and practices, cooperate in further projects and widen our own activities.
