Solidarcité Charleroi

« Solidarcité Charleroi » is a belgian project developed by a non-profit organisation called « ASBL AJMO » working with young people since 1985. The aim of this organisation is to provide social and educational help for young people from 0 to 25 years old and/or their parents or relatives. This help can take the form of group projects which gather people from different horizons. « Solidarcité Charleroi » is one of these projects. « Solidarcité » is a french pun with the words « solidarity » and « citizenship ». The aim of this project is to provide supervision and support to a group of 8 disadvantaged young people (girls and boys from 16 to 25 years old) who intend to plan their professional or scholastic future while they achieve a 9 months voluntary service working with non-profit organisations in Belgium. Practically we are working on three aspects : 1. Community services and social activities : this first aspect includes manual working in non-profit organisations, maintenance of natural reserves, meeting with seniors, leading cultural events with asylum seekers,… 2. Training and awareness-raising activities : this second aspect includes several trainings to acquire skills in connection with the services that young people will have to do in non-profit organisations. It also includes awareness-raising activities to important social issues (politic, ecology,…) to reach a better understanding of what surrounds them. 3. Personal maturation : this final aspect concerns the creation of « post-Solidarcité » project for each young people of our group. It includes regaining self-confidence, reflection on their own realities and socio-professional orientation.
