‘Christine Chilver’s Animal Friend’s Society’ is a non-profit, non-governmental animal welfare organization running projects to help to stray, abandoned dogs and cats, to reduce mistreatment of animals, to improve the standards of all kind of animal welfare in Latvia and Europe and raise public awareness of national as well as international animal welfare issues. The main goal of organization is to improve the quality of life of all animals by creating and supporting programs that save the lives of homeless pets, to promote respectful relationships between people and animals, to improve welfare conditions of pet animals as well as animals used in farming, entertainment, research and experimentation etc. On a practical everyday level organization is providing care for stray, abandoned and mistreated animals, managing animal shelter (founded in 2001) and the only in Latvia social veterinary clinic (founded in 2014) "Animal Friend". On the other hand Society served as a platform for raising awareness and educating various groups in the society, especially children and youth, on animal welfare and environment issues by organizing informative events, campaigns and other inclusive activities, working with volunteers and the local community. Society also provides advice on national and European issues in animal welfare in political context thus constructing animal welfare policies and improving animal protection legislation. Volunteers are a vital part of the Animal Friend's team and carry out a wide variety of roles for Society's animal shelter, veterinary clinic and at fundraising and campaigning events. Volunteers are involved in various activities such as: - practical work in the shelter – an everyday care of animals, - assistance to a shelter veterinarian, - preparation of informative materials and distribution of those, - organization of informative campaigns, fundraising events and other activities on animal protection issues, - involvement in the international cooperation of Society; - maintenance and development of Society social networks (Facebook, Twitter). We are looking for volunteers, who are dynamic, creative, sociable, patient and interested in animal protection. Volunteer should be motivated, willing to learn Latvian, able to work in a team: we would like to host people with their own ideas and open to different cultures. Strong motivation, willingness to see and to do something new, curiosity about the animals and environment. Previous experience in volunteering at animal shelter is highly appreciated, but also volunteers without experience are welcome. Volunteer should be vaccinated against Rabies and may not be allergic to animals.
