Hamara is a voluntary and community organisation which aims to improve the quality of life for people in Leeds and reduce inequalities and disadvantage. We provide activities for people of all ages, communities and backgrounds. We deliver activities and services in three main areas, Health & Social Care, Youth Work, and Training. We provide youth activities, information, advice and guidance, day services for people with learning disabilities, training and education, sports, health and exercise and older people’s services. The Youth Team mission statement is “to make a positive contribution to the lives of young people by increasing their life chances and helping their transition from youth to adulthood through support and activities which develop their skills, capabilities and full potential” The youth team delivers a range of projects, working with vulnerable young people who are sociallly excluded and face multiple disadvantage from 5 - 25 years. We offer targetted youth work, including work in schools, work with NEETS, youth clubs, one to one support, recreational activities, drop in sessions, a youth forum and a youth café, supplementary education, sports, mentoring, volunteering opportunities and holiday programmes. On average, we engage with 2,000 people every year, who often come from vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds and who are primarily though not exclusively from minority ethnic communities.
