Boramosa

Boramosa – word whose meaning in Sesotho is “friendly people” – is a registered nonprofit association that offers support to LGBTQ+ (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans*, queer) migrants, asylum seekers and refugees, living in Padova (north-east of Italy) and surroundings. Its staff has specific experience on transnational migrations, refugee law, genders and sexualities, and is committed to promoting spaces for self-expression and moments of awareness. Since 2015 we have helped dozens of persons to get prepared for the hearing of the asylum application, to feel more at ease with themselves, and to get oriented within the region. Since 2022 we are part of the "Mariasilvia Spolato" Anti-discrimination Centre of Padova. Our purpose is to be humanely close to the personal vicissitudes of migrant people, whether they be new-comers or long-stayers, in order to contribute to their well-being in the broadest sense. We are also interested in cross-cutting issues, such as human trafficking, phenomena of serious exploitation, sexual and gender-based violence, fight against hate speech, the variety in the spectrum of non-hetero-cis-normative identities, non-formal education aimed at young people, advocating for the adoption of more tactful administrative and jurisdictional procedures, and so forth. Currently, our group mainly copes with: ✔ Managing an information desk which provides socio-legal support (by appointment) ✔ Organising intercultural social gatherings and proposing initiatives open to the local community ✔ Setting up training events aimed at personnel operating in public services or in the social field ______________________ Boramosa is available to act as a sending organisation for projects in the frame of Erasmus+. We are eager to work with other like-minded NGOs on projects involving topics such as: ◆ intercultural and interfaith dialogue; ◆ gender issues and gender-based violence; ◆ sexual and reproductive rights; ◆ positive integration of migrants and refugees; ◆ fight against (any form of) xenophobia and intolerance; ◆ active citizenship, especially involving newcomers to Europe; ◆ empowerment of LGBTIQ+ individuals, especially the ones with fewer opportunities.
