Associação Juvenil Transformers

“Movimento Transformers” was created to address the problem of the lack of civic and social involvement. We are a national volunteer movement that makes a difference through what people enjoy doing the most (superpowers/talent). We support and develop activities, projects and initiatives that have the ultimate purpose of contributing to human development and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, promoting solidarity, cooperation and coordination among youth and other spheres of society. We have different kinds of projects but our main one is focused on creating Superpowers Schools (having reached 22 cities in Portugal) where, throughout the year, and once a week, volunteer mentors teach their superpowers to “at-risk children/young people” (apprentices) and, at the same time help them to develop transversal skills such as teamwork, social conscience, communication among others. We also developed other projects such as a program to young leaders in High School where we empower them with soft skills tools and capacity building to becoming the next young leaders of their community. We also develop projects in corporate volunteer and social responsibility, training for volunteer work and non-formal education or events that promote social involvement. Since 2010, we reached more than 2500 apprentices and 300 volunteer mentors that intervened on several social problems in 136 communities. Adding up all the numbers, we have reached more than 5500 hours of volunteering work.
