ERZURUM CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS TRAINING CENTER

Our education center has been found in 2004 as one of the five education centers affiliated with The General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses under Ministry of Justice in Erzurum, Turkiye. The purpose and function of our establishment is to improve occupational skills and competence levels of those who work at prisons, detention houses and probation directorates (Directors, Psychologists, Social Workers, Teachers, Correctional Law Enforcement Officers etc.). For that purpose, both occupational and adult educations are being provided in our establishment. In our education center, our main focus is to improve the quality of the services we’re giving and contributing to the competence and skills of those who are working in prisons, detention houses and probation directorates using contemporary education methods. In our education center, apart from bringing in occupational skills and information we also encourage a perspective based on respect towards human rights, the feeling of justice and work ethics. We do not want our trainees to see the time they spend in our establishment as a education process but as an opportunity to experience institutional traditions and personal development. In our education center there are guest rooms, resting rooms, a refectory, a gym, a library, a canteen etc. for the trainees to use. There are currently a 19 staff members that take part in teaching processes which are; the director of the education center, the deputy department director of the education center, 6 lecturers and 11 educators. Also, with the purpose of strenghtening the collaboration between other establishments and providing variety, expert staff from other establishments are giving out seminars and conferences in our establishment depending on topics and subjects. In the scope of topics and subjects of education processes that we carry out in our facility there are; orientating for beginners, occupational intervention tecnics and tactics, expertizing in terrorism, search and rescue during avalanches, fire and other natural disasters, measurement and evaluation, smoking, drugs and alcohol addiction, anger management, preventing suicide, leadership and managing, ERASMUS Project writing, motivational educations, “say no to violence”, “with my mother”, CARE intervention programs, positive psychotherapy based psychological first aid etc.
