OUR WEBSITE: https://www.lichenis.com/home-1 WHO WE ARE Lichen is a social innovation lab based in Barcelona. We design and run participatory, learning and citizen-driven processes for public bodies, schools, cultural actors, NGOs and private entities. We worked on urban health, circular economy, youth wellbeing, mobility, food and culture, digital communication but our core value is methodological: we develop strategies and tools to help increase societal understanding, awareness and participation to address major contemporary challenges. WHICH CHALLENGE DO WE RESPOND TO Across many EU policy fields, the problem is not the lack of solutions but their limited uptake. Policy makers and researchers generate tools, data and guidelines, yet these are rarely turned into formats that people and local organisations can use. At the same time, citizens are heavily informed but only lightly involved, which weakens ownership and behaviour change. Lichen works on this “last mile” of innovation: we connect existing knowledge with communities through participatory design, narrative and visual translation, and reusable toolkits, so that project results can become adoptable by the wider public. WHAT ARE OUR MAIN OBJECTIVES - enable meaningful participation and strengthen social fabric ( through collective intelligence, co-design, citizen science, governance labs); - contribute to effective innovation and sustainability stressing the central role of citizens in creation, prototyping and adoption of solutions ; - translate complex topics into learning and engagement journeys; - create reusable toolkits and visual materials for citizen engagement; - connect local pilots to wider European narratives on green, digital and social transition. OUR AREAS OF EXPERTISE Method design & facilitation: strategies and schemes for participatory activities or research; co-creation sessions; multi-actor labs. Engagement & communication: brand identity for engagement, campaign design, visually smart knowledge translation, scientific content communication. Tools & learning: toolkit development, guidelines, training modules, digital/physical formats for living labs. Innovation frames: social innovation, citizen science, art×science, governance for urban/sustainability challenges. Thematic add-ons: urban health, circular economy communities, youth mental health, gender and labour inclusion, sustainable mobility, food/urban transition but we can apply our methods to other thematic fields as well.
