DDM Ostrava–Poruba is a contributory organization of the City of Ostrava. We are an educational institution with three centers (the organization's headquarters and two branch facilities), providing education for children and adults in accordance with the Education Act and the Decree on Leisure-Time Education. We focus on the following areas of activity: • Regular leisure, educational, recreational, and learning activities, including support for school preparation – clubs and courses for children and adults. • Occasional leisure, educational, recreational, and learning activities, including support for school preparation – one-time events, workshops, training sessions, etc. • Camps and related activities – day camps and weekend retreats. • Awareness-raising activities, including the collection and dissemination of information for children, pupils, students, and other individuals, as well as activities aimed at preventing risk behavior and promoting volunteering. • Individualized work, particularly creating conditions for the development of talents among children, pupils, and students, with a special focus on polytechnic education. We regularly offer approximately 120 interest-based groups and clubs attended by around 1,400 participants. During spring and summer holidays, we organize approximately 30 day camps for 900 children. Regarding residential activities, we primarily focus on shorter formats. We also organize around 150 occasional events annually, attracting approximately 24,000 participants. Among our most significant events are the Fairy Tale Forest, Performances of Interest Groups for Mother's Day, and the Lantern Trail. We also play an important role as co-organizers of major events such as May Day in Plesná, Walpurgis Night Celebrations, Bezva Fest, and the LEGO Exhibition in cooperation with the City of Ostrava. Our offer is complemented by regular polytechnic workshops for primary schools and after-school clubs, carnivals, and sports and arts activities. DDM is also actively involved in Talent City Ostrava. As part of this major citywide event, we prepare expert workshops such as the Robotics Arena. These workshops introduce participants to the diversity and technological excellence of modern robotics and polytechnic education. Our organization systematically works with talented young people across many areas of activity. We have long focused on developing the skills of children and youth through innovative educational methods and project-based learning. In the field of polytechnic education, a key role is played by our internal project, “Robottransfer,” which supports the development of technical thinking and practical skills among pupils. Through this project, robotics, virtual reality, and programming are effectively promoted, enabling participants to actively adapt to current technological trends. Another internal project aimed at developing artistic sensitivity and manual skills was “Craft Education and Project Days.” Children had the opportunity to learn both traditional and modern artistic techniques and to work with a variety of materials. An important social benefit of the project was its targeted support for intergenerational cooperation and active involvement in preserving cultural heritage through handicraft activities, thereby fulfilling the organization’s broader social mission. A significant component of our talent development strategy is the targeted support of sports activities, enabling gifted individuals to fully develop their potential. In this regard, rope skipping occupies a prominent position, with participants from our center demonstrating an exceptionally high level of skill and ability. Thanks to systematic training and expert guidance, members of our interest groups regularly participate in national competitions and showcases, where they achieve outstanding results and repeatedly rank among the top performers. These successes not only provide an effective means of talent development and support for gifted individuals, but also serve an important representative function by promoting the good name of our organization and the region at the national level and demonstrating the quality of the non-formal education we provide. Online activities also form an important part of our offer, allowing us to reach participants in their homes or within school communities. These include the nature-based competition “Window into Nature,” designed for kindergartens and after-school clubs. This competition effectively combines environmental education with an engaging exploration of the natural world. We also organize a themed LEGO Competition, open to participants of all ages interested in model building and design. Within the framework of competitions announced by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, we organize contests for approximately 500–600 children. These include district and regional rounds of the Mathematics Olympiad and the Programming Competition, the district round of the Pythagoriad, as well as district and local rounds of the Children’s Recitation Showcase.
