Masar ("process" in Arabic) Institute for Education was founded in 1998 for the purpose of: (1) helping people learn to deal with difference and to regard uncertainty as a stimulus for learning and growth; (2) contributing to the development of the Arab community and society as a whole by shaping a diverse culture where difference is respected and appreciated; (3) promoting systematic change in Israeli government policies in order create an educational environment that meets the needs of the Arab minority. At Masar, we are participating in the development of our community and society as a whole by leading the development of new visions of education of education. We define “new visions in education” as radical, innovative or empowering approaches to education which answer the needs of the community it serves. Our strategy for the actualization of these goals is to generate knowledge and experience in each of 5 spheres of work and to disseminate that information to a variety of target audiences. The core of our work is the Masar Experimental School which we see as the research space in which we promote four interrelated spheres: capacity-building, research, systemic change and community outreach.
