Ærø Ungdomsskole - Viften

Viften offers all sorts of ongoing activities within a cultural framework as well as annual events and the like. We hold a large range of facilities to accomodate an after-school activity for the youth. We hold both everyday activities as well as more specific courses, workshops and projects. Viften also represent the interests of our youth within the political framework of Ærø. Our employees give to our profile a large variation within (not least) paedagogical, cultural, craftsmanship and artistic backgrounds. Ærø is an archipelagian island in the southern part of Denmark consisting of +6000 inhabitants with a small municipal government and administration. Our staus is being a somewhat self-sustainable municipality on a non-bridged island with a historically strong maritime identity, tradition and culture. We're depending on the flux of tourism at summer-season, creating a clear seasonal dynamic. We're facing structural problems of urbanization and educational centralisation that drives our youth towards mainland around the age of high school. Up to this point, though, we have a strong and lively youth culture with many traditions and a good sense of community. Also, people tend to keep a foot on Ærø even though they live off the island for many years. Also, we have a special group of youngsters that travel from Denmark and abroad and stay here for some years while they attend a preparational high school designed to the local navigational school.
