"DiverCity" Social-Cultural, Human Rights Defender NGO

"DiverCity" NGO was established in 2019 by a group of progressive young LGBTQ+ individuals as a beacon of hope and support for the LGBTQ+ community. The vision of “DiverCity” NGO is to promote pluralism and foster a diverse culture where there will be equal opportunities for all regardless of sex, sexual orientation and gender identity. Our main areas of work are in informational and non-formal education, protection of human rights, social work, and in the development and recognition of cultural diversity. Our ultimate goal is to foster a stronger LGBTQ+ community and create opportunities that will empower them. We believe in the power of diversity and strive for a society where everyone, regardless of their sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity, can thrive and enjoy equal opportunities. We also work with other minorities to bridge between various marginalized groups. The initial project that set the organization in motion was called “Diverse Society.” We have held more than ten projects so far (https://divercity.am/category/projects/) one of which has been aimed at the organization’s institutional development. The project resulted in the organization acquiring physical necessities and allowed the team members to update their qualifications. Since DCNGO is an eco-sensitive unity, we have held a project called “ Eco Diversity” the end goal of which was having a more eco sensitive LGBTQ+ community. We strived to bring recognition to the LGBTQ+ individuals as a community involved in preserving the ecology. LGBTQ+ individuals are the main target group of DCNGO. However, we often work with other groups to promote more acceptance and sensitivity towards the LGBTQ+ community. In those instances, the LGBTQ+ community becomes our secondary target group. A project demonstrating this approach was “Companion Map Armenia” (https://divercity.am/project-companion-map-armenia/?lang=hy ). The project entailed the strengthening of the community, influencing decision makers and increasing awareness of human rights defense. In December 2022, we launched a youth media project called “The Voice of Diversity” to address LGBTQ+ and related issues (https://www.youtube.com/@divercityngo). We are actively publishing informative media content such as videos, podcasts, and human stories, to increase awareness of LGBTQ+ people and their issues.
