ASAL STUDENT ASAL Student is a non-profit association, which operates exclusively in the field of Social Promotion with the objective to develop, promote and implement projects that outline social, educational and cultural activities. It also sustains actions undertaken by other local, national and European organisations that aim at achieving the "true integration" between people through the abolition of racial and cultural barriers in order to create a society without boundaries that brings them to a peaceful coexistence. The targets of ASAL Student are the young people, indispensable for the construction of a new future and, in the other hand, are the immigrants who in turn are a fundamental figure of the Italian and European society. ASAL Student is a non-political association, inspired by the principles enshrined in the Italian Constitution and international conventions and is based on full respect of the human, cultural and spiritual development of the individual. ASAL Student institution became reality in Lecce in December 2010 as a conversion of the former A.S.A.L (Albanian Students of Lecce Association), founded in 2007 by a group of Italian and foreign students. The currently ASAL Student, firstly operating in the academic field and now in the social field, focuses on the multi-ethnic composition, involving a wide range of Italian citizens and new-born immigrants. It promotes self-representation as a prerequisite for a real integration of the migrant in the hosting society. Specifically, the Association’s objectives are: • To evaluate the migrant status through interdisciplinary methodologies, encouraging exchanges and promoting solidarity and integration among people, building a bridge between Italy and his/her country of origin; • To promote any action whose aim is to create a future based on cultural, economic and religious diversity through educational development training. • To encourage all the popular initiatives that with the Italian and foreign citizens’ participation and various forms of socio-cultural expression, promote multiculturalism and promote peaceful coexistence among different communities; • To safeguard the dignity and work of the migrant, as well as ensuring to them equal opportunities, children's rights and workers. ASAL Student promotes the learning of the Italian Constitution and current legislation in Italy and Europe in the field of immigration, providing judicial protection of civil rights and common interests of the migrant and / or refugee. In this context, ASAL Student organizes courses regarding Italian language and foreign civics and history, and other informal education training that aim to promote awareness and use of computer and electronic systems as a means of social integration and employment opportunities, to spread the inter-cultural knowledge of the migrant, thus increasing cultural and economic cooperation between Italy and the corresponding countries. ASAL Student promotes anti-racist campaigns through targeted activities and the use of new media (website, social networks, newsletters, etc.)… At the same time, promotes and develops methods to support new-coming talents by organizing cultural activities (in particular, painting), musical activities and entertainment in all its forms and expressions. ASAL Student develops studies, questionnaires, surveys and researches with the intention to enhance local awareness for the aforesaid issues. It elaborates, prints and disseminates informative publications such as brochures and newspapers, as well as producing and broadcasting radio programs, movies, films and documentaries. Meetings with the local citizens and authorities help ASAL Student to evaluate the activities that best reflect its ideas. ASAL Student aims to carry out its activities in favour of immigrant and Italian citizens living in Italy and abroad. It cooperates, participates and adheres to public and private organizations, national and international associations, movements and foundations, striving to build a successful network that achieves all its objectives.
