ASAD was set up in 1977 and is a social cooperative - type A (Law 381/91) offers social health care and educational services. Its aim is to pursue general community interest, promoting human and social integration of citizens through the management of healthcare, social and educational services. Employing 550 people, it offers services to 27 municipalities and to 9.000 people. PUBLIC SCOPE AND GENERAL INTEREST This cooperative exists to: • promote the culture of solidarity • make the community aware • protect the people’s rights • promote integration and social inclusion • integrate different actors of the Social Policies • create ‘social’ capital SERVICES ASAD designs and delivers innovative social, health care and educational services adapting them to the needs of the people and the community, in collaboration with Public Bodies (co-design/planning). Professional services are provided through our long experience in this field by skilled and motivated members (educators, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists ...) We work applying good practices and professional relationships, in favour of those who risk social exclusion (people with disabilities, children, the elderly, youths , immigrants, people with mental illness, women) We answer to material, psychological, relational and moral needs through professional customized actions to integrate people within the local community, to improve their autonomy, enhancing their self esteem, promoting quality of life and well-being. We work to create innovations in social policies and a ‘community welfare’, where ‘horizontal subsidiarity’ means active participation, alliance and enlargement of citizenship rights. NETWORKS ASAD is a social enterprise that operates as an open system with exchanges and interaction with the communities constantly creating networks. THE 3 BASIC MILESTONES Combining entrepreneurship and solidarity, ASAD follows the values established in the three constituent parts of the social cooperative: Cooperative, Enterprise and Social. Each of these components has some distinctive features: • Being Cooperative means to pursue ‘mutuality’, an advantage for its members; • Being Enterprise means to meet the criteria of financial autonomy, proper economic management and the ability to take a risk • Being Social means to be rooted in the territory, capable of understanding the community, transforming the desires and needs of its ‘stakeholders’ in economic and social choices. The social enterprise produces social utility and collective well-being, does not distribute profits, but reinvests them again in the community. YOUTH Our special focus on youth services started from 1984 with the first ‘youth open centre’ and ‘info-youth’(informagiovani) In Umbria today, ASAD manages: • 6 open centres / labs • 3 info-youth • 1 mobile young station (infoJO) • 12 open centres with special attention to people with disabilities and mental illness • 1 didactical farm • 4 job-accompanying centres (SAL - Servizi Accompagnamento al Lavoro ) • 4 ‘prevention and integration at school’ projects • 4 youth immigrant services. It has set up 4 new Social B Type Cooperatives (social enterprises with the aim to give jobs to disadvantaged people) operating within Tourism and Cultural Services, Facility Management and Agriculture. The cooperative is also a licensed VET Provider in the Umbria Region. At national level it operates through 2 main networks of which it is a full member: CGM (a consortium of social cooperatives) and SNS Foundation that is specialised in Facility Management. Through SNS it is linked to DIESIS, an European umbrella of the cooperative movement.
