"Tjejer i Förening" is a self contained, politically and religiously independent organization. The organizations purpose is to work for and promote equal opportunities for all children and young people to participate in various public and social processes. Our focus is to provide after school activities for girls aged 8-25 years in the socio-economically disadvantaged area Rosengård. By working on the basis of the CRC and a gender perspective the organizations main goal is that by arranging free activities attract, meet and inform girls in Rosengård about participation in the non-profit sector and in various leisure activities, furthermore increase the low participation, involvement and influence in social processes among girls and women. An organization that supports, motivates and inspires girls in their spare time is necessary in Rosengård since Sweden has theoretical goals saying that all children have the right to have a meaningful leisure, but in the practical manner not live up to this goal. Children living in households with smaller financial resources tend to have smaller access to an active leisure, and the most vulnerable group exposed to this is girls with foreign-born parents. In this case the probability of having a meaningful free-time for a girl living in Rosengård, an area with a child poverty at 62.5 percent (statistics from Save the Children, is very much smaller than for a girl or a boy living in an area with greater economic resources. Therefore by establishing concrete measures for the promotion of the CRC and the principle of gender equality, we believe that we can create equal opportunities for children and young regardless of gender, background or economic resources in their participation in public and social processes Here's the agenda for Tjejer i Förening a regular week: On Tuesdays we arrange something called Girls Evening, where we arrange free activities. Either we have compounds visiting us or we go visit them. On Wednesdays, we have in collaboration with Bricks, Area East - The City of Malmö, Girls Evening for a bit older girls (!6-25 years old). Also here we offer girls free activities such as yoga, dancing, baking, crafting etc. In addition to this, we help girls creating or developing their own projects by coaching, helping them write applications for e.g. financial support etc. On Thursdays, we do horseback riding, an activity which is usually very expensive but which they by us can exercise for free. In addition to our activities we also visit the five schools in Rosengård during the week. The purpose of visiting the schools have been mainly to highlight the organizations existence and inspire girls to get involved. As our organization has evolved though, some of the schools have also set aside time from grade six, in order for us to organize activities for the girls during school hours. This has proven to be a way to sow a seed in order to further develop the commitment of girls in society. Tjejer i Förening is also for the moment involved in two projects. The first one is called "Jämställda platser i Malmö" (Equal places in Malmö), which is a project led by Tjejer i Förening and Miljöförvaltningen, and mostly funded by the administrative authority Boverket. The aim of the project is to invest and create three equal places in Malmö, chosen by our co-applicants Gatukontoret, and the two real estate companies MKB and Trianon. Our organizations task as process leading is to implement and develop the RRM-method (a different form of civil dialogue method which narrows the dialogue group to including only girls), with the goal to create gender equal places. The second project is #100workshops led and funded by The City of Malmö - Urban Area East. The project aims to implement 100 workshops that will inform people living in urban area East about gender equality and a norm critical thinking. Tjejer i Förening is particularly responsible for implementing the workshops and developing a gender equality work in the elementary schools in this area.
