MORATA'S YOUNG ZONE

ABOUT US "Morata's Young Zone" ("Espacio Joven de Morata", in Spanish) is a group of teenagers ages 14-17 which was created 4 years ago. Together we do sports, educational, cultural and leisure activities. Our group is composed of many teens and a few youth leaders. All of us live in a Spanish town named "Morata de Tajuña". Our town is a 20-30 minute drive to Madrid, the Capital City of Spain. This group is part of the Association “Jóvenes en Movimiento”. OUR HISTORY A few years ago in our town there weren't any activities for young people except sports. In 2009 we decided to change this situation and we created the "Morata's Young Zone". Since then we have done many activities to improve our culture and leisure oportunities. City Hall of Morata supports us and the Mayor has provided us a place in a public building to develop our activities. At the begining we were 15 people... now we are about 40. YOUTH WORKERS TEAM Youth workers have created an association called “Young People on the Move” with an objective: improving the quality of life of Morata's young people. Almost all of us are college graduates in Social Education or School Teachers. In addition we have obtained the official qualification in Spain to be monitors too. We have seven years of work experience in non-formal education. We perform projects to support youth in their studies, with special atention to inmigrants or people with fewer social and economic opportunities. OUR GOALS FOR YOUTH IN ACTION PROGRAM We would like to participate in a Youth Exchange with other groups with similar ages to ours. Also, we are interested in Youth Democracy Projects. We want to meet young people from other countries and share new experiences with them. We have never participed in an European program before and we think that “Youth in Action” can be an opportunity for us to meet groups of different countries and work with them in a common issue.
