MEAS TRITON

MEAS TRITON, with the fruitful experience of the 60 years, since its inception, was founded in 1957 and constitutes one of the most historical athletics associations in Greece, having a long-term tradition in Classic Sports. In recent years, MEAS TRITON is demonstrating great development on racing, cultural and social level, starring and leading for 20 years in all categories, with its athletes to accompany the national team. At the same time, escaping from the narrow racing contexts, the organization is planning and organizing for 12th consecutive year, with enormous success, the Alexander Road Marathon, the Night Half-Marathon and the mass participation roads of 5 and 10km, as well as the 100m. Racings for primary’s school pupils. Thereby, in the field of Classic Sports, MEAS TRITON is imparting the massive cultural and social dimension that deserves it, by organizing the 2 most massive sport events in North Greece (20.000 runners’ participations). The events’ purpose is the international emergence of a historical route as well as the importance of Thessaloniki and Macedonia, as a center of history, culture and sports. In addition, our association through the organization of all Racing Roads’ projects offers the opportunity to all individuals, no matter what, to run or to walk, with main objective the physical performance or the joy of participation, aiming at the promotion of a healthy living standard and the improvement of their quality of life. For this reason, the main purpose and our association’s commitment is to provide exceptional services to all of our participants, volunteers, sponsors and everyone collaborating with us, for the success of our big common effort. Moreover, our organization specializes in classic athletics, by featuring as a key pillar the Athletics Academies of sports and fitness. The academies’ purposes are the overall development of the child, in combination with the correct configuration of its personality. The Academies are addressed to all children, regardless of their inclination and talent specialized in athletics or any other sport, thus enabling the child, and therefore the parents, to discover and develop new skills and, above all, love sports. Additionally, referring to its memberships, from the “vitals” of our organization have come out champions who continue to offer their services to the club constituting the current coaching team. Regarding the infrastructures of our association, the venue of the academies’ training is Kaftanzoglio National Stadium, as well as the training’s center of the club, which is roofed in the same stadium. The above mentioned infrastructures have both enclosed and open spaces for conducting trainings, covering the different needs of each sport and enabling configuration of workouts depending on weather conditions. In the end, it is remarkable to mention that MEAS TRITON is the only one association in Thessaloniki which has created and maintains until today, with its own expenses, the training centre for the optimum and safe preparation of the athletes. MEAS TRITON of Thessaloniki organizes the top for North Greece event, with sports, social, cultural, environmental, touristic and above all historical importance, an event that is an excellent ambassador of our town, of Macedonia and of our whole country. In addition, MEAS TRITON operates with a long-term multilateral experience, following the standards of the big International Marathons and thus the International Marathon “Alexander the Great” is for all the participants a multiday experience that with the essential notion, the sports and their participation to some of the running events, provides opportunities for tourism, participation in environmental actions, cultural and social events. The complete schedule of the organization also provides important opportunities of commercial development for the sponsors and its supporters. The first International Marathon "Alexander the Great" held for the first time in 2006 and it was the vision’s result of many people who represent athletic, social and cultural bodies all over the Greece. M.E.A.S TRITON of Thessaloniki was licensed by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and was sponsored by the Hellenic Athletics Federation, the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, as well as with the collaboration of multiple bodies and institutional supports. Thereafter, are briefly presented the association’s actions:  International Marathon "ALEXANDER THE GREAT" (in 2016 20.191 participants) 12th -2017, 11th -2016, 10th -2015, 9th -2014, 8th -2013, 7th -2012, 6th -2011, 5th -2010, 4th -2009, 3rd -2008, 2nd -2007, 1st-2006  International Night Half Marathon of Thessaloniki (in 2016 20.667 participants from 61 countries and 5 continents.) 6th -2017, 5th -2016, 4th -2015, 3rd -2014, 2nd -2013, -2012 1st  Racings Roads of Health and Power Walking 5,000 meters (in 2016 3.833 participants’ ages: 12-95)  Racings Roads of Health and Power Walking 10,000 meters (participants’ ages:.........  Racing Road of Elementary’s School Students 1,000 meters (participants’ ages: 9-12) In the context of the organization that is sponsored by the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO take place parallel cultural events, social responsibility and social contribution events. In the aforementioned events, the participants and supporters of the organization are given the possibility to have an active presence, applying by this way the program of social responsibility of the company or the body that they belong, or enriching their own social responsibility and social contribution corporations. Moreover, reinforcing financially their social work and at the same time providing to those the extra possibility of applying their actions, for the benefit of the sensibly social groups to which they are addressed and which they are serving. Regarding the environmental actions, the main purpose of it, is to reduce to the minimum the ecological impact of the organization and at the same time to initiate the kids, “the tomorrow of our country”, that participate in the 1000m race (i.e. students of Elementary Schools), so that they get to love the environment and to be sensible towards it. After their finish, the little students receive an envelope with the label “THE RACE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT IS A MARATHON”, in which a card is included that is made of paper containing organic seeds from aromatic plants, and this (the paper) is “planted” under a fine layer of soil and then it springs up, creating in a few days an excellent little garden with herbs such as basil, sage and mint. The plantation of “seeds with paper” is by this way an entertaining activity at home, as well as for many children is their first gardening experience, while simultaneously observing their evaluation, the children acquire new experiences and knowledge. Furthermore, a program of collection- recycling of used sports shoes is applied, in collaboration with institutional and volunteering bodies and sponsors. The slogan of this action is “LET THEM RUN AGAIN”. Meanwhile, the sector of environmental responsibility organizes a recycling of all the materials that are used to cover the needs of the Runners (80.000 bottles, glasses and other equipment). The sector of Environment of the O.C. of the International Marathon “ALEXANDER THE GREAT”, in collaboration with the six municipalities of the Marathon Route and the institutional supporters of its, proceeds to the cleaning of the streets and the edges of the streets (Marathon, 10.000m, 5.000m). Apart from the aforementioned actions, in addition cultural events take place, that complete in the best way the multiday schedule of it and implementing the concept of multilateral and determining significance and effect of the town and the country on the society, making the Marathon the best ambassador of our country in the whole planet. Indicatively, the organizing committee in collaboration and sponsored by the Hellenic Commission for UNESCO, along with the responsible Executive Body, the Olympic Museum, created the Committee of “ALEXANDER FRIENDSHIP AND COLLABORATION”. This is an institution that promotes the sports and cultural collaboration between nations, the diffusion of the civilization message through the sports, the creation of an international cultural network, cultural and educational actions, acts of social responsibility, diffusion of principles of the “fair play”, the peace, the friendship, the collaboration, the equality, the respect. In conclusion, according to the previous written information, it is obvious that MEAS TRITON under the framework’s organization of racing and sports activities is also combines, supports, aims and carries out cultural, environmental and social nature activities, having so experience and expertise in activities related to this application’s areas. To achieve all the above, a prerequisite was the staffing of the sports association by experienced and qualified staff. Therefore, they have been carefully and exclusively selected as coaches physical education teachers, as well as older champions of MEAS TRITON. The degree of specialization has as main pillar the track, the perennial teaching, coaching experience and expertise in pursuit of children. Coaches are primarily interested in the proper mental and physical development of children through exercise and fun, which is an equally important part of the training, especially at younger ages. Apart from the coaches, in the association’s key staff, voluntarism perhaps is considered to be the most important factor that led to success of the organization and its events. Its executives and staff have already earned the respect and recognition of the runners. Their selfless dedication and their valuable services contribute to the continuous rising course of the events and also to the providence of high quality services. Moreover, volunteer staff/people have staffed the association’s offices contributing to organizational and administrative functions. In recent years, it has been established a strong core of volunteers supporting the events and association’s activities and this is the key factor that endorse sporting, cultural, environmental and social activities. In addition, the association’s Board of Directors, consists of the Chairman, General Secretary, General Manager, Cashier and other 2 memberships. There is also the Organizational – Execution Corporation Committee (International Marathon “Alexander the Great” and Night Half Marathon), which constitutes of the President the General Secretary and other memberships. In the end, there is also the Technical Corporation Committee, which constitutes of a wide variety of highly specialized and experienced memberships, in each position.
