International Youth Work Braunschweig

Between Hamburg and Berlin lies Braunschweig, a city of 250,000 with medieval architecture, green spaces, and a winding river that encircles the city. Despite its size, it offers cultural and recreational opportunities rivaling larger cities, with picturesque parks, dynamic cultural projects, and Volkswagen's presence. Nearby national parks, the Harz mountains, and heathlands provide sustainable learning opportunities. Braunschweig's extensive network of sister cities and four decades of international youth engagement highlight its commitment to global connections and enriching experiences for young people. Braunschweig boasts a strong youth work network, consisting of various local and regional organizations committed to supporting young people aged 10 to 27. Spread across the city's districts, there are 30 distinct youth centers offering a wide range of programs. These include digital learning, outdoor education, (inter)cultural activities, and flexible opening hours, providing a dynamic and inclusive environment for youth to develop and flourish. Braunschweig's youth social work focuses on ensuring educational and vocational training, social integration, and equal opportunities for disadvantaged youth. Services include school social work, support for school reintegration, vocational training assistance, and outreach programs. Initiatives like pracical classes and the pro-active center help young people transition smoothly from school to work. The city's comprehensive approach aims to foster inclusion and provide tailored support to meet the diverse needs of its young residents.
