Hinseginfélag Þingeyinga - Queer association of Þingeyingar

Hinseginfélag Þingeyinga (Queer association of Þingeyingar) is an LGBTQ+ organisation from the beautiful and culture rich Þingey district in the north of Iceland. The organisation is focused on community oriented work where we host events, educate on queer issues, take part in policy making and run youth work directed at LGBTQ+ youth of various ages. The Þingey district is geographically large but mostly rural with one big town and four villages. Our organisation therefore tackles issues directly related to minority youth with fewer opportunities based on a small and spread out population. Although queer rights and legal standing are among the best in the world and our district is generally a safe and open environment our members do face daily social difficulties within their communities and prejudice mostly based around misinformation and lack of representation. We aim to create opportunities for our youth members to get in with their communities on a global level, spread information and create a representation that strengthens their place in their own communities. To do this we wish to give them important tools and knowledge and hopefully we'll be able to use the Erasmus initiative with that goal in mind!
