We are a non-governmental organisation whose members live in two small towns MAINtal and MühlHEIM which are situated opposite to each other and separated by the wide German river Main. Because of the towns we started to call us MainHeim what could mean something like "Main is our home". Everybody notices the importance of the river in our everyday life: in order to visit each other we must cross the river, we have relatives and friends which live on the other riverside, we go to school on the one side and we do sports on the other. That's why we take care about the playgrounds and sports fields lying on the riverside: we collect bottles, bins, rubbish and throw them away, we cut the gruss and grow some flowers. We love watching swans and ducks families swimming peacefully in the river. We learn the younger children not to hurt them and point out to the extraordinary beauty of our towns. Unfortunately we cannot stop worring about our river. Every year after heavy rains the waterlevel is getting much higher, so that we can't reach another shore any more. All our playgrounds are staying under water, our houses are in danger. We ask ourselves if there is a connection to the global warming to some extent maybe. We would like to know more about factors influencing our environment and what we could do in order to protect it. Besides environmental issues we are concerned about growing unemployment among young people in Europe and try to reflect about its reasons. We are aware of the importance of health for the future job. That's why we promote a healthy way of life and do a lot of activities outside such as cycliing, climbing, camping, kayaking, hiking.
