Citizens’ Association NARKO-NE started developing practical projects for addiction prevention and improvement of health from its establishment in 2002. The organization has a strong vision of socially just communities in which healthy and creative young people participate in the building of peaceful future. The basic work approach is to strengthen the protective factors and foster empowerment, and to reduce risk factors in the lives of children and youth. Every year 170 young people, from about 16 municipalities in B&H, receive education for voluntary engagement in our continuously developing projects. The projects are implemented in the frame of two coherent program areas: 1. Youth for Healthy Communities About 120 high school students give their best through voluntary work to improve health of their communities. Their goal is to encourage their peers, but also the elderly, to develop healthy lifestyles and raise their awareness to make smart choices when it comes to alcohol, Internet abuse, gambling and betting, cannabis, smoking, etc. 2. Mentoring projects for work with children at risk Every child in need has his own male or female mentor who helps him develop healthy human potentials so that they get an adult they trust and who would be a role model to them. Students work on their professional development through volunteer work. Male/female volunteers are prepared for their role through education and supported through advisory meetings and supervision during their work. Through non-formal education programs, CA NARKO-NE educates their associates from the partner government and non-governmental organizations that support and monitor the work of volunteers. CA NARKO-NE encourage all young people to be active in society regardless their national, ethnic, religious or other personal backgrounds. More than 1400 youngsters, by participating in our projects in last 12 years, contributes to building democratic society based on values of protection and inviolability of human dignity.
