About Organization
The muncipality of Santa María del Campo -a village 35 km far from the city of Burgos (Castilla y Leon, Spain)- is composed by a corporation of 7 people, six councilors and a mayor. One of the main objectives of this corporation is the adjustment of the population, fighting against the constant depopulation of rural municipalities. For this reason, the municipality participates actively in the daily life of the inhabitants and visitors, trying to give and create services and fighting to keep them. These services are not only addressed to the population of Santa María del Campo, but also to the population of the surrounding villages that have a smaller number of registered inhabitants. At the educational level, the municipality has a kindergarten from 0 to 3 years and a public school with primary education, up to sixth grade (ESO). The municipality, also, hires qualified personnel during the year, to meet the children needs after school time. The personnel organize extracurricular activities: readings, English workshops, games and sports, promoting meeting and learning spaces, also opened to the children of other municipalities. The municipality manages also a nursing home, “EL ALMENDRO”, with capacity for 25 residents. Here, two trainers organise workshops appropriated for the age and the capacity of the guests. In the nursing home, the municipality is currently working in a greenhouse project, with the support of qualified staff, in order to give an additional activity and treatment to the residents. The goal of the municipality is to ensure that people who live in the village and the surroundings can have services and activities that provide personal development and a good quality of life, claiming a better living experience in the rural municipalities with low population.
